Malaria No More is a foundation that works to end deaths caused by malaria. The organization, which was established in 2006, works alongside several other charitable groups, including UNICEF, United Way, and the American Red Cross. Through monetary donations, the organization purchases insecticide-treated bed nets and anti-malarial drugs, which are both used to protect against the often deadly, but preventable and treatable, disease. The charity is also committed to educating people about malaria, as well as ways to prevent and treat it. First introduced to Malaria No More through the Idol Gives Back charity show in April 2008, Brooke has continued to demonstrate her support of and devotion to the foundation. As the spokeswoman for the organization’s “Save the World Summer” campaign in 2008, Brooke encouraged kids to use their summer vacations to truly make a difference in the world. The talented singer urged children and teenagers to help in any way they could, whether it be in raising money for Malaria No More or another charitable organization. She stressed that this campaign was all about having a positive impact, about doing something to make the world a better place, whether it be planting a tree or donating a bed net to protect someone from malaria. Brooke’s journey on American Idol and her own quest to help bring about positive change in the world not only inspired kids to get involved with the “Save the World Summer” campaign, but adults, as well.
